Join us for an unforgettable hands-on experience in our Makerspace! This workshop is your chance to step into the world of blacksmithing and create something truly unique. Under the expert guidance of Bladesmith and Blacksmith Aaron Meliza, you’ll learn the art of transforming a rugged railroad spike into a custom knife you can proudly take home.

What to Expect

  • Expert Instruction: Aaron will walk you through every step, from heating and hammering to shaping and finishing.
  • Hands-On Crafting: Work with fire and steel in a safe, supportive environment.
  • Your Own Knife: Leave with a functional, handcrafted blade that reflects your creativity.
  • Community & Creativity: Connect with fellow makers and explore the tradition of bladesmithing.

Rules

  • Age Requirement: Participants must be 18+ (or accompanied by a guardian if 16–17).
  • Safety First: Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required. No synthetic fabrics near the forge.
  • Bring your work gloves with you.
  • Arrival Time: Please arrive 15 minutes early for check-in and safety briefing.
  • No Spectators: For safety and space, only registered participants may attend.

What to Bring

  • Work Gloves
  • Closed-toe shoes (preferably leather or sturdy work boots)
  • Long pants (jeans or heavy-duty fabric—no synthetic materials)
  • Cotton long-sleeve shirt (for protection from sparks and heat)
  • Water bottle (stay hydrated!)
  • Hair tie or bandana (if you have long hair)
  • Lunch or snacks
